Fun Fact #5
While A.B. napped at home, Jay and Carrie took a free guided nature hike through Cucumber Gulch in Breckenridge (thanks local municipality!). On the hike they learned that beavers mate for life. Fun Fact! (Not pictured: any beavers. They are also very elusive.)
Fun Fact #4

You might be wondering, how does one get up on the Colorado National Monument? As always, A.B. has got you covered.
Rim Rock Drive is a 23-mile paved road that goes up, across, and down the Monument. Local workers, as well as those associated with the Civilian Conservation Corps and the Works Progress Administration, essentially chopped the road out of the sandstone walls and cliffs. The CCC and the WPA were both programs associated with The New Deal, putting Americans back to work in ways that we still benefit from today. Fun Fact!
Fun Fact #3
The official State Animal of Colorado is the Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep. Jay spotted a small herd of these while we were on the Monument! The official State Fish? Greenback Cuttthroat Trout. (We haven’t seen one of those yet…as far as we know.) Fun Fact!
Fun Fact #2
Petroglyph National Monument is jointly managed by the Federal Government and the City of Albuquerque. That is a great example of Federalism – shared power between different levels of government. Fun Fact!
Fun Fact #1
The official State Bird of New Mexico is the Roadrunner. And Jay saw one on his run in Albuquerque! (It did not hold still for a photo – Roadrunners are always on the move.) Fun Fact!
